Uploading your pages to the Internet.

While there are several different ways to upload your web pages to the internet, I'm only going to go into detail about one way. The free and easy way.

The first thing that you'll need is a web hosting service.

There are many different hosting services out there ranging from FREE to $100's a month. You'll need to figure out which one is best for you by determining exactly what you expect from your hosting service...
ex...

  • If you go with FREE HOSTING...you'll most likely have to deal with these annoying pop up banners.
  • How much space you'll need for all of your pages.
  • How much traffic you plan on getting at your web site.
  • What extras you'll be needing...for instance, CGI-BIN, MySQL Database, etc...All of which are beyond the scope of this tutorial.
  • You may want to do some studying on this subject before you decide.

Here is a link to the free site that I use ... Click Here for FREE HOSTING!
Here is a link to the Pay HOSTING SERVICE that I use...Click Here for guaranteed 99.9% uptime! It costs $14 a month if you pay bi-annually or $19.95 monthly. These prices are good for all they offer.

Which ever way you decide to go, you may choose to obtain an optional domain name which costs $15.00 a year. Then you'll need to purchase or obtain hosting space. You can simply click on one of the above addresses to get your hosting service.

Click Here to get your domain name

Once you've received all the info back from the web hosting server (User Name, Password, and ...server address.) you can then start to upload your pages by using Internet Explorer FTP (file transfer protocol).
You can see how this works by opening Internet Explorer and typing in the address bar.... ftp://freeinternetservice@freeinternetservice.hypermart.net
When you get your info from the hosting service, you would use this format to get into your FTP folder....ftp://user_name@server_name.com...
You'll then be prompted for your password...and your ready to start uploading your pages.
If you go with the pay hosting then you would simply type in.... ftp://user_name@domain_name.com
The user name will come from your hosting service by email, and the domain name is the name that you specify at purchase. If you choose to name your web site CrazyEyes.com then you would type in....
ftp://your_user_name@CrazyEyes.com and you'll be in your FTP folder. Then just copy and paste your web pages in there. How to copy and paste files from your computer to the FTP Folder...

  • Simply grab the file from your desktop or any other file on your computer.
  • Right click on it.
  • Scroll to copy and click copy.
  • Then move your cusor to the FTP file.
  • Right click again and choose...Paste.
That's all there is to it.

Another free way...

  • All hosting services have file managers, usually in the menu or site manager....
  • You can get there at the pay hosting by typing in http://your_domain_name.com/menu.
  • Once you're in the menu area, you look for file manager.
  • Then there is usually a place where you can browse your computer for files.
  • Pick the file that you're uploading and click upload...
This can be quite a bit slower as you can usually only upload a single page at a time. The previous way you can choose an entire file folder with all your pages and images and copy and paste them all at once.
